I think we get along beautifully because we hate the same things. In the eyes of the world, we could be the most ignorant people who ever lived. We’re oblivious to everything when we shouldn’t be; we pretend like everything is okay when the atmosphere is actually deteriorating, or so experts say. I wouldn’t say we’re scared or incapable of changing the reality of the matter. In fact, I don’t think we’ve ever even tried. Maybe we’re already comfortable with the way things are. I’d like to believe so. Should the world we’ve ignored crumble because of our foolishness, at least I know ours won’t.

This foundation we’ve created—it’s really something. We’re like a foreign groove that nobody knows how to dance to; a song in a language nobody can understand. We waste our time turning cigarettes into ash and share talk of our ambitions as if we might be going somewhere. It’s the simplest things that become irreplaceable.

What is the point in forever wondering what might have happened if a certain moment might have turned out differently?

One could presumably drive oneself to insanity by doing so. In any case, while most people can talk about the “turning points” in their life, one can surely only recognize such moments in retrospect. When looking back at such events today, it’s quite easy to see that the moment in question has taken the appearance of being a crucial, monumental milestone in one’s life..but of course, at the time that this was actually taking place that is not the impression you had. It was as though in your mind you had an innumerable amount of days in which to sort out the wrongdoings, so this one moment was not as precious as you might later reflect on.

You would, in your mind, have an infinite number of chances in which to take care of those misunderstandings. There was surely nothing to indicate that at that exact moment, such an incident, which in your head was insignificant when compared to other incidents, would render whole dreams forever irredeemable.

Who knew that one momentary lapse of judgment could alter your life forever?
